ABOUT
Originally from the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales, Sarah Heneghan is a Sheffield-based drummer and composer with a love for the unusual and the curious. This is reflected in her heavily improvised drumming style, inspired by North European jazz, folk, minimalism and post-rock.
Aside from Power Out, her solo show of drums, electronics and lights, Sarah has been in numerous collaborations, including Nishla Smith, Tim Knowles Quartet, Emergence Collective & wolf peaches. Sarah has received support from Arts Council England, London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival & Lancaster Jazz Festival for developing her music & projects.
Sarah has been the recipient of numerous funding bids, residencies and development programmes (see bottom of page for organisations) in order to develop her creative and community projects.
Local community and supporting like minded musicians is deeply important to Sarah.
She runs Key of She, a community project in Sheffield that curates opportunities for female and minority gender musicians in the North to improvise and create music together. She also co-runs Footprints Artist Development, a talent development scheme for budding jazz projects in Sheffield.
